Beavers' effect on riverine softwood forests

The Eurasian beaver, as an ecosystem engineer species, has a significant impact on floodplain habitats through its selective foraging and dam construction. Selective foraging affects the competition of woody species present on the shoreline, as well as the structure of softwood groves. Beaver dams influence the hydrological conditions of the habitats, thus exerting an effect on water-related and waterside communities.
