A5 – Athalassal saline euhydrophyte communities:
Species poor vegetation of small, rooted, floating (Ranunculus/Batrachium) or submerged (Zannichellia, Potamogeton, Chara) aquatic weeds in saline lakes. The area of this rare habitat depends on the weather. On the basis of the available map its area can be roughly estimated to 600-800 ha in the country. It occurs mainly in saline lakes on Dunai-Alföld (approx. 400-600 ha), and in canals with saline water on Tiszai-Alföld (approx. 60 ha). It can also be found in Lake Fertő (approx. 150 ha). At the same time it is missing from the Dunántúli-dombság, from Nyugat-Dunántúl and from the Dunántúli- and Északi-középhegység because of the lack of adequate site conditions. Although the definition refers clearly for saline habitats, the mappers occasionally classified Ranunculus/Batrachium communities of non-saline waters to this habitat; hence the accuracy of the mapping is not satisfactory.
