B5 – Non-tussock beds of large sedges:
Grassy communities developing on nutrient rich sites that are at least seasonally covered by water. The plant growth leads only exceptionally to prominent inequality of the vegetation surface. Normally there is no peat formation. Dominant species can be: Carex acuta (=C. gracilis), C. acutiformis, C. disticha, C. melanostachya, C. otrubae (=C. cuprina), C. riparia, C. vesicaria, C. vulpina. These sedge communities are more common and more evenly dispersed than tussock sedge communities. The total actual area of the habitat is 11800 ha in Hungary. It is most frequent on Tiszai-Alföld (4200 ha), especially on Nyírség and along the Felső-Tisza River (at the same time it is mainly missing from the loess ridges). There are significant stands also on Dunai-Alföld (2040 ha), but not along the Duna River, but in the fenlands of Turjánvidék and Őrjeg. It is also a frequent habitat of the Dunántúli-dombság (2700 ha), Kisalföld (1100 ha, mainly in Hanság), Nyugat-Dunántúl (890 ha), and of the colline regions of the Északi-középhegység (680 ha), but it is more infrequent in the Dunántúli-középhegység (220 ha), and is missing from the inner part of the mountains. Usually the habitat occurs only in small stands in the country, the large stands became victims of the drainages; consequently its total area is relatively small, despite that it is widespread.
