G3 – Siliceous open rocky grasslands:
Habitat on outcrops, cliffs and open screes of silicate rocks (for example andesite, basalt, rhyolite, granite, etc.), occurring usually on dry, sunny, windy slopes. It is a “pioneer”, open, or poorly closed natural habitat (the cover of the grass layer is < 50%), practically a semi-desert. The extreme abiotic conditions do not assist the mass spread of perennial grass species, or the development of closed grasslands. Already 4 m2 of rock surface is sufficient for the collective appearance of the characteristic species. The estimated total area of the habitat is 125 ha in Hungary. It occurs with greater amount (120 ha) only in the Északi-középhegység; the majority of the stands can be found in the mountains of silicate base rock (mainly in Börzsöny, Mátra, Medves, Sátor-hegység, but sporadically in Cserhát and Bükk also). Much more infrequent in Dunántúli-középhegység (Visegrádi-hegység, Velencei-hegység, Bakony, Balaton-felvidék), the total area here is less than 5 ha.
