MÉTA Program >>> Habitat distribution maps

OA – Uncharacteristic wetlands:
Uncharacteristic, degraded, wet or drying wetlands of diverse origin that can not be categorized to any semi-natural habitat type. Presence of woody vegetation is minimal. The weedy, secondary wet tall herb communities also belong to this group; as the uncharacteristic marshy communities in oxbows, river beds; the wetter variants of ruderal and semi-ruderal vegetation of floodplains and marshes; and also the secondary marshes, reed beds, club-rush communities of temporarily flooded arable fields. The estimated total area of the habitat is 6140 ha, although it should be noted that uncharacteristic wetlands were partly classified to the adequate marsh habitat type, mainly to B1a, B2, BA. Two-thirds of the stands can be found on Alföld: 2380 ha on Tiszai-Alföld, 1500 ha on Dunai-Alföld. Uncharacteristic wetlands are also common in the Dunántúli-dombság (1100 ha), but infrequent in the regions that are much poorer in wet habitats; on Kisalföld (170 ha), Nyugat-Dunántúl (340 ha), and in the Dunántúli- (280 ha) and Északi-középhegység (360 ha). By reason of interpretation difficulties the map does not show the accurate distribution; some mappers used this category more often than others. Nevertheless its infrequency on Dunántúl can be partly explained by real causes.
