J1a – Willow mire shrubs:
Developed in endorheic areas (areas lacking surface drainage) and in old oxbow lakes dominated by shrubs (generally Salix cinerea), growing on soils with different peat content. In case of suitable water conditions they have good regeneration potential. With the decrease of grazing and coppicing, this habitat can even extend its area, mainly at the expense of tussock sedge communities. It is surprisingly evenly dispersed in the country, though its actual area is approx. 1680 ha in Hungary. It is most frequent on Tiszai-Alföld (650 ha, on Nyírség and Szatmár-Beregi-sík and at the Sajó River), also common on Dunai-Alföld (480 ha), especially on Turjánvidék, in Őrjeg and on Dráva-sík. Willow mire shrubs are sporadic on Kisalföld (140 ha), in the Dunántúli-dombság (180 ha, mainly in Belső-Somogy), on Nyugat-Dunántúl (105 ha), and infrequent in the Dunántúli- középhegység (50 ha) and Északi-középhegység (80 ha).
