J3 – Riverine willow shrubs: 
High-growing shrub habitats on river bars and riverbanks, occasionally on the fringes of oxbow lakes. The shrubs are usually Salix species (S. purpurea, S. triandra, S. viminalis, S. fragilis, S. alba). Since this pioneer habitat develops specifically on riverbanks, it is connected to the greater rivers. Its total actual area is 1380 ha. Riverine willow scrub is the most widespread along Duna River (approx. 720 ha), and on Tiszai-Alföld (530 ha), but it is missing from certain segments of Tisza River, because of the steep bank, the lack of river bars and partly because of incomplete mapping (inaccessibility of the stands). It is also sporadic in the valley of the Körös Rivers. Additionally it occurs along the River Rába (approx. 80 ha), in the Északi-középhegység (44 ha) mainly along Hernád River. It is uncommon in the Dunántúli-dombság (14 ha), and is missing from the Dunántúli-középhegység. The development of the habitat is determined by abiotic conditions; besides the river sedimentation its distribution is influenced by the actions of river bank protection and water damming.
