L2b – Turkey oak - pedunculate oak woodlands:

Mixed forests dominated by Quercus cerris and/or Q. robur occurring on humid lowlands and on low, flat hilly regions. Q. petraea, and sporadically hornbeam can also be present. The water-supply is highly variable (periodically wet or dry); and this edaphic feature leads to oak dominance. Turkey oak - pedunculate oak woodlands are strongly connected to the relatively high and even precipitation, as well as to the soils of extreme water regime, developed on sand, clay, and clay/argillaceous gravel. The total area of the habitat is nearly 15000 ha, almost exclusively on Dunántúl. The most relevant occurrences can be found on the north-western foothills of the Dunántúli-középhegység, at the south-eastern edge of Kisalföld (6000 ha, Vértesalja and Bakonyalja, and Pápa-Devecseri-sík), on the lowlands and low hilly parts of Dunántúl (almost 6000 ha, Sopron-Vasi-sík, Kemeneshát), and on the sandy region of Dél-Dunántúl (3000 ha, Belső-Somogy). Sporadically it also occurs in other regions of Dunántúl (e.g. Zalai-dombság; its occurrence is uncertain in Külső-Somogy). It is absent from Alföld, and we have only few, isolated, uncertain data from the Északi-középhegység. Recent stands of some variants of these woodlands can be secondary; formerly (100-200 years ago) wooded pastures were on their place, which is still visible in their structure and species-pool. Light-demanding, drought-tolerant forest specialist species are also present in the herb layer, but with a smaller amount.
